5 Ways to Banish Chapped Lips for Good

5 Ways to Banish Chapped Lips for Good

Name one thing that ruins a perfectly good lipstick like dry, flaky lips (we’ll wait). Nothing? Our point exactly. Since we’d prefer not to give up our lipstick-wearing for all of eternity, we decided to take matters into our own hands and come up with an easy five step solution to banishing chapped lips once and for all.

Step 1: Drink *Plenty* of Water

We’ve all heard the “rule” that we’re supposed to be drinking about eight glasses of water a day. But what exactly is a glass and is it the same for everyone? Not exactly. Sure, striving for eight water refills a day is a great jumping off point, the number goes up depending on height, bodyweight, and if you sweat, workout, eat salty foods, and more. Without getting too scientific, we just like to drink more water than we think we should.

Step 2: Add Healthy Fats Into Your Diet

Yes, avocado toast totally counts. Not only is upping your intake of things like olive oil, avocados, and nuts healthy for your wellbeing, but it’s also a key factor in keeping your skin (including your lips) hydrated from the inside out. And since chapped lips are classified as dry skin, those fats will help to fend off flakes from the get-go.

Step 3: DIY a Lip Scrub

To get rid of flakes that have already formed, you must gently slough them off. In a pinch, we love to use our toothbrush to buff away dead skin after brushing our teeth (just apply a thick layer of lip balm and brush lips in circular motions). But if we have time, a DIY lip scrub is our go-to method—and it’s so easy to make. Go into your pantry and grab one teaspoon of honey and two teaspoons of brown sugar. Mix them together and then apply the concoction to your lips with your finger, buffing them in circular motions for a few seconds. The honey will kill germs and hydrate your lips, while the sugar gently removes flakes.

Step 4: Apply a Lip Mask

Next up: A soothing dose of green tea and peptides to soften and calm your lips. We’re partial to our FlashPatch® Hydrating Lip Gels. Just put one on and chill for five minutes. Once you've finished that dancing bird video, you’ll have visibly smoother, noticeably softer lips.

Step 5: Seal the Deal

You’ve buffed and nourished your lips from the inside out. Now, it’s time to seal in all the goodness. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, aloe, and honey for a cushion of hydration, our Lip Service Gloss-to-Balm Treatment draws hydration in and keeps it there. The result? Super soft lips you’ll forget were once a chapped mess.
