Hot Off the Press: Our Newest Mask Is a Perfect Ten

If your hands are already a little worse for wear just a few weeks into fall, we’re with you. The truth is, hands need just as much (if not more) care as the skin on our faces. We rely on them for everything, so it’s about time we gave them the R&R they deserve. That’s why we created our new Perfect Ten Self-Warming Hand Mask—and why we plan to use it as the first step in our at-home mani routine all season long. Want in on the self-care? Here’s how it’s done, in three simple steps.

First up: The hand mask

You know the old trick where you slather lotion on your hands and stuff them into gloves before bed for softer skin by morning? Our new mask is sort of like that, but much quicker thanks to a little thing we like to call science. Using the same insulation technology as space blankets, the gloves lock in your natural body heat to allow the coconut-infused lotion inside to better penetrate the skin. The best part: All it takes is ten relaxing minutes. Once you remove the mask, you’ll already notice a difference in skin’s hydration levels (see: science). Make sure to rub in any remaining serum to reap all the benefits.

Step two: Shape things up

Now, grab your nail file. Because cold, dry temps can cause nails to lose moisture, they might be a little more brittle than usual. To prevent them from splitting, file them in one direction with a crystal nail file. Working a traditional emery board back and forth can actually cause tiny fractures in your nail, which makes them more susceptible to breakage. Filing in one direction will create smooth, strong tips.

Step three: On goes the polish

After your hands are nice and hydrated and nails are shaped to perfection, it’s time for the polish. Pro tip: Apply a bit of acetone to a Q-Tip and run over your nails before applying your base coat. This will remove any oils deposited by the hand mask, which might prevent polish from properly adhering to the nail. Then grab your favorite lacquer and get to work. Oh, and don’t worry about getting any color on your cuticles—they’ll be so hydrated, that you can easily peel the polish off when it dries.

Look at you, doing your own mani like a total pro.
