By the end of this article, you’ll fully understand what a chemical foot peel is, how and when to use one, and why it’s being deemed as “the best at-home pedicure experience”!
You’ll also see countless reviews of users and their first-hand experiences – whether they’re first-timers or repeat users. Let’s see what all the hype is about!
What is PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel?
The PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel is like a face mask for your feet. You slip into cute little booties loaded with a botanical blend of AHA + BHA – chemical exfoliants that are tasked with gently dissolving dead skin cells and exfoliating rough patches from the bottom of your feet.
The boots are gentle, but they pack a punch! After a 60-90 minute waiting period inside the foot peel, what follows is a 3-week shedding cycle that will cause your dead skin to peel right off your feet. It’s not the prettiest process, we’re not going to lie about it… and we definitely recommend hiding in your socks for the duration of it.
However, after the shedding period is over, you’re left with the most deeply hydrated and baby-soft skin you’ve likely ever seen. In our opinion? It’s. Totally. Worth. It.
Where did chemical foot peels come from?
According to The New York Times, chemical foot peels originated in Japan in the 1990s. They gained traction in the U.S. after shocking images and videos of the shedding process made its way into social media channels and caused a ruckus.
But foot peels didn’t stop there – they also grew in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, since… well, let’s be honest – no one was seeing our feet unless we pointed our phones down while FaceTiming.
Should you try a chemical foot peel?
Chemical foot peels go beyond a fun science experiment for your feet. We’ve designed the PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel to address very common skin concerns many people have for their feet.
If you struggle with any of these, you should try the PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel:
- Dry skin
- Cracked skin
- Excess dead skin
The beauty of this mask is its efficacy – even the most stubborn concerns stand no chance against this 60 to 90-minute mask.
Ingredients in the PoshPeel Chemical Foot Peel
Chemical foot peels work so well because they feature ingredients known as AHAs and BHAs – or alpha-hydroxy-acids (AHAs) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). These are chemical exfoliants that aid in the dissolving of dead skin cells.
We have our own PoshPeel™ Pedi Cure Activating Essence that works wonders when poured into the booties.
The Activating Essence consists of an advanced AHA + BHA botanical blend with five incredibly effective ingredients:
Glycolic acid: Penetrates skin deeply and exfoliates
Salicylic acid: Softens skin and removes dead cells
Lactic acid: Hydrates and encourages the skin to slough off
Citric acid: Helps speed new cell turnover
Botanical extracts: Brightens the skin
These key ingredients are experts at working together – they know exactly what they’re doing and how to get you those baby-soft feet free of rough heels, bubbles of dead skin, and tough callouses.
Are foot peels safe?
Some people hear the term “chemical foot peel” and get concerned – when we refer to chemicals or acids, we’re referring to chemicals gentle enough that they’re commonly used in facial skincare products as well. No worries there!
You shouldn’t do a foot peel if you’re currently experiencing or have a history of:
- Rashes, redness, or wounds
- Eczema, athlete's Foot, or psoriasis
- Contact dermatitis (allergic reactions)
Instead, if you have sensitive skin, try the Best Foot Forward foot mask. It’s not a chemical peel – instead, it’s a highly moisturizing and hydrating foot mask packed with shea butter, coconut oil, and natural evergreen extracts. You’ll thank us later!
How to use PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel
With just one 60-90 minute foot peel treatment, you can send calluses packing and tell dead skin to hit the road.
How to use the PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel like a pro:
Step 1: Soak your feet in warm water for 30 minutes prior to use. You can also take a warm shower right before using the peel instead.
Step 2: Pour your desired amount of Activating Essence into one of the Foot Peel Masks and evenly distribute along the inside of the cotton lining.
Step 3: Place your foot inside the foot mask and seal it with the attached closure. Repeat for the other foot.
Step 4: Wear for 60 minutes (up to 90 minutes if you want more intense exfoliation or if you haven’t used a foot peel recently).
It’s important that you keep your feet flat on the ground and level while you’re wearing the booties! Don't kick your feet up or the treatment will not apply evenly!
Step 5: Remove the foot peel masks. Thoroughly rinse and dry your feet.
Step 6: In 7-8 days when the peeling starts, soak your feet to help the exfoliation progress. Progressive peeling action will take place over the next couple of weeks.
If you have the urge to pick the dead skin by hand, soak them instead. Do not manually peel any skin!
Step 7: As soon as the peeling starts, wear socks to keep dead skin contained. Protect your feet until everything is done shedding. The shedding process will take 1-4 weeks depending on how much dead skin you have on your feet.
Best practices for a chemical foot peel
If you need guidance on what NOT to do when using a chemical foot peel, we’ve already called out the 11 MAJOR Mistakes You’re Making When Using a Foot Peel, so you’ll have to check that article out next.
However, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the top 3 mistakes you should not make when using a chemical foot peel.
Top 3 mistakes to avoid when using a chemical foot peel
Mistake #3: Not soaking your feet
If you don’t soak your feet before slipping into PoshPeel Pedi Cure booties, you could waste the product! The objective is to loosen your skin to make it easier for the chemical peel to work its magic.
Without soaking, there’s a chance your feet may not peel, which can affect your final results.
Mistake #2: Applying lotion after the peel
It can be tempting to put lotion on once you slip your feet after the booties – after all, you’re trying to recreate the spa experience!
We get it and really admire your dedication to relaxation – you know we’re all about self-care.
However, applying lotion after your chemical peel could bring the peeling process to a halt! Instead of applying lotion, pat your feet dry and slip into your favorite fuzzy socks.
Mistake #1: Poor timing
This is the number one mistake people make when it comes to foot peels. There are so many horror stories of people using foot peels right before a big event (think, wedding or beach day, yikes!) and having yucky, shedding feet covered in peeling skin.
Fall and winter are really common times to do a chemical foot peel since your feet will be hidden away in your shoes and socks all season, but you can also do a foot peel in the summer as long as don’t mind up to 4 weeks of hiding in socks.
The one where PoshPeel broke the internet: User reviews and photos
We love foot peels because they give us 60-90 minutes of uninterrupted self-care time while also revealing the softest soles we’ve ever seen. If you’re still not convinced the results are worth the yucky 1-4 weeks of skin shedding, we’ll let the results speak for themselves.
Here are some customer reviews that capture just how amazing this product truly is.
If that isn’t enough, here are some amazing before-and-after videos showing just how much of a miracle worker the PoshPeel really is!
Clients love the PoshPeel Pedi Cure
So, as you can see, the peeling is worth the wait! Trade in your crusty toes for super smooth feet that are ready to be unleashed from their socks!
We love seeing your amazing feedback and results when using the product. Here are some of our favorite claims about this foot peel:
It’s also refreshing to see that the peel can be used at any age. Patricia D. left a review as a customer over 65:
“Great for the husband who would not seek treatment outside the home for feet that were badly in need of treatment. Would do treatment 3-4 weeks before planned vacation.”
We love a product that any gender or age range can benefit from!
What makes PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel different?
Tons of foot peels claim to peel your feet but PoshPeel actually works. Tons of users have let us know they tried other brands and nothing peeled their feet and revealed the softest soles quite like ours.
The PoshPeel is also extremely gentle – it dissolves dead skin and exfoliates rough patches without irritating the skin. Some peels might be too potent or have ingredients that will aggravate gentle skin.
In fact, Byrdie featured the PoshPeel Pedi Cure Foot Peel in their list of The 12 Best Foot Peels of 2023. Among other foot peels, this one is considered the best splurge, meaning you’re gonna get that bang for your buck!
Unlike other peels, our foot peel:
- Contains botanical extracts to brighten and protect
- Can show results within a week
- Easy to use
Although we warn against using this peel after a brand new pedicure and urge you to allow up to 4 weeks for shedding.
Another highlight is the foot mask’s customizability, “depending on how much exfoliating action you want”, according to Byrdie. Since you’re free to pour as much of the Activating Essence into your booties as you’d like, this gives you the option to ease yourself into the foot peel world as a beginner or ramp up the peeling process as an expert.
Our unique PoshPeel™ Pedi Cure Activating Essence was also a key touchstone in their comparison to other brands, with an advanced AHA + BHA botanical blend powerful enough to eat away at stubborn dead skin but gentle enough to avoid irritations.
Caring for your soles after a foot peel
Once you’ve finished the peeling process and have revealed your super soft skin, it’s important to maintain a foot care routine for regular upkeep in between peels.
Foot masks are a great way to maintain your soft skin after a chemical peel. Foot masks are different from foot peels because they won’t peel the dead skin off your feet – they’ll simply moisturize it.
The Rosé Toes Renewing Foot Mask will help you retain moisture levels, preserve smoothness, and upkeep suppleness to prevent dry, rough feet.
No matter what activities your feet get up to, whether they spend all day in shoes and socks, at the gym, wearing high heels, or walking barefoot, using a foot mask will help deeply moisturize and nourish your feet until the next foot peel!
How often should you use a foot peel?
Every 3-4 months is a great cadence for performing a foot peel and will yield the best results. With this rhythm, you can ensure beautiful feet in every season and maintain softness without waiting too long between applications. We don’t want the rough heels and toes to show up again or they’ll be harder to get rid of!
